Campaign Strategy: Our goal is to build awareness by educating our community about our growing needs and then seeking support to implement our objectives.

The Good News Capital Campaign will:
  • Call upon our Board of Directors to lead the effort to establish a new level of involvement for all.
  • Invite broad based participation by staff, members, community leaders, civic organizations, local businesses, foundations and corporations and encourage each to make a commitment that they feel good about.
  • Include naming opportunities for benefactors who would like to honor and/or memorialize a loved one.
  • Provide various methods from which a donor can fulfill their commitment: multi-year pledges, outright gifts, deferred gifts, stock, matching gifts, etc...
  • Recognize all gifts, regardless of size, for the value they bring to our efforts.
  • Measure the success of our Capital efforts by dollars raised, and by the participation of our community so that we may build upon our donor base for future initiatives.

The Good Samaritan Shelter is a Christian ministry that provides emergency and transitional housing and support to homeless men, women and women with children in the Greater communities we serve

What the Good News Capital Campaign means:
Our capital campaign is about bringing Good News to our residents, community, donors and volunteers.

We’re providing Good News for the community by helping men, women and women with children become productive members of society. The Good Samaritan Shelter works very hard at addressing the root causes of homelessness, which often involves unemployment. We prepare our residents to become skilled and dedicated employees of area businesses. Our statistics indicate that only 15% of residents are employed upon entering our programs. However, nearly 60% are employed after their stay at the Shelter. This is Good News for our community.

We’re providing Good News to homeless men, women and children who desperately need our services. While at the Good Samaritan Shelter, residents are given a safe and comfortable place to live, food, clothing, case management, and an unending amount of support and encouragement. This is Good News for men, women, and children in need of a second chance.

The capital campaign also brings Good News to our donors and volunteers. You can be part of a historic period for the Good Samaritan Shelter. Not only are we the only men’s homeless shelter in northern Chester County, we have recently expanded into Lancaster County as well. More Good News... we are a healthy and responsible organization that is governed by a dedicated and passionate Board of Directors. Our efficiencies ensure that your invested dollars, time and energy produce significant results. As we expand, the need for community support is even greater. The shelter is a place where everyone can get involved and feel appreciated. You are important to us. You do make a difference, and that is Good News.

Campaign Objectives: The main objectives of the Good News Capital Campaign are:
  • Pay off mortgages and loans on our shelters. Doing so will reduce our organization's debt and enhance cash flow.
  • Establish an endowment fund to ensure the Shelter's perpetuity. The Good Samaritan Shelter can be a place where homeless men find dignity and hope for many years to come.
Completed Objectives: Roof repair, heater system upgrade, floor repair painting one of our houses. Many miscellaneous projects that came up in our houses.

Good Samaritan Shelter is expanding and we are launching our Capital Campaign to fund our expansion and secure the organization's future.

Rationale: The Good Samaritan Shelter currently serves as the only shelter for single men in northern Chester County. The shelter is uniquely positioned to serve a critical need by offering housing and other critical services to men in the Greater Phoenixville area. In addition, we also serve women and women with children in Lancaster County. Because of the lack of additional shelters for men, women and women with children, the demand for services has always exceeded the capacity. However, in light of the challenging economic times we are experiencing, the demand has reached unprecedented levels. During our 2011–2012 fiscal year we have turned away over 200 people. The purchase of 104-106 High St. enabled us to increase our capacity by over 50%.
